It is a great honor to invite you to a People Of Color Ceremony Weekend with Romeya Peño Kamānawa of the Noke Koi Tribe from the Brazilian Amazon jungle, along with his daughter Kamayura Kamānawa, and his wife Karine Vari. Together they are called Yamati Roa'ti Delegation, a cultural and spiritual collective representing the Noke Koi people.
The Noke Koi are an Indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest, from the Brazilian state of Acre. Noke Koi translates to “True People,” and their culture, traditions, and language (Noke Vana) represent an unbroken lineage spanning hundreds, possibly thousands, of years, as they were never fully colonized. Their way of life has been carefully preserved and passed down through generations.
A wide range of sacred medicines are traditionally used within Noke Koi healing and ceremonial practices, including Ayahuasca, Rhapé, Kambo, Sananga, tree resin incense, and a variety of medicinal plants. The Noke Koi are especially well known for their traditional chants (Txiriti) and healing songs (Saiti), and are respected throughout the region, often being consulted by other tribes for their deep knowledge and healing practices.
Within the Noke Koi tradition, there is a long and continuous lineage of shamans, known as Pajés. The highest level of Pajé is called a Romeya. A Romeya is chosen by the Great Spirit and recognized as a master of rhapé, trained to facilitate profound healing for others. Noke Koi Romeyas are highly venerated and are frequently sought out by other tribes for their wisdom, ceremonial leadership, and healing abilities.
In order to make this Sacred Amazonian Plant Medicine more accessible to marginalized communities, and to support greater diversity within traditional ceremony spaces, this gathering is being held as a People of Color (POC) – centered ceremony. This space is intended to welcome members of the Global Majority into a safe, sacred, and supportive container for healing, transformation, and awakening.
This gathering centers BIPOC and POC communities, including people of African descent; Indigenous peoples of North, Central, and South America; Asian and South Asian communities; Middle Eastern and North African communities; Pacific Islander and Native Hawaiian peoples; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; as well as those of mixed, multiracial, and Indigenous ancestry.
This is a space rooted in solidarity with Indigenous nations and movements, with Black and Brown communities worldwide, with Palestine, and with all peoples impacted by colonization, displacement, and systemic injustice. This gathering honors gender diversity and affirms trans, non-binary, and gender-expansive identities. It is a space that supports protection of and harmony with Nature, and that calls for unity, respect, and shared humanity.
This gathering also respects and honors all religious and spiritual traditions, recognizing that many paths can lead to healing, transformation, and awakening.
This Ceremony Weekend will take place in the San Francisco Bay Area, or within the surrounding regions.
